Appearing for the first time at the Houston games, Adriane Wilson will bring with her an incredible story of indurance and perserverance. In the last ten years, Adriane has placed in the top ten at the Olympic trials for shotput (2004 and 2008), battled a cancer diagnosis, and taken the title of Women's World Champion in Highland Athletics for four consecutive years. Oh, and she got married!
Adriane received a diagnosis of Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2003 just before the 2004 Olympic trials. However, six months of chemo therapy did not stop her training, nor did it stop her from qualifying at the trials and placing fifth.
In 2008, Adriane discoverd the world of Highland Games competition. Her marks in her first competition earned her a place at the 2009 Worlds where she finished third. After that, it was first place for the next four years. Adriane is currently the reigning champ of the World Highland Games Ladies Championship.
The Houston Celtic Festival and Highland Games looks forward to hosting such incredible athletes, both male and female, over the entire weekend. Ms. Wilson will be competing on Sunday. More information on the Festival can be found at www.HoustonHighlandGames.com.
