Volunteer to Help Stamp Out Hunger

Give just three hours of time and feel great the rest of the weekend

April 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Portland, Oregon – Looking for a fun volunteer activity that doesn’t take much time? Oregon Food Bank is looking for help with the National Association of Letter Carriers’ (NALC) Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.  This annual event takes place Saturday, May 10, 2014.

In Oregon and Clark County, Washington, more than 4,000 letter carriers in urban and rural areas will join the national effort to pick up food from postal customers. Oregon Food Bank invites you to be part of this very exciting day. Volunteers are needed from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Last year, letter carriers collected 1.1 million pounds in Oregon and Clark County, Washington. Donated food stays in the community where it was collected, giving thousands of hungry Oregonians hope and help in their time of need.

Here’s how you can join us:

Adopt-A-Route. Follow letter carrier routes and pick up food to deliver to the local post office. You’ll get a great t-shirt that identifies you as a Stamp Out Hunger volunteer.

Pack boxes at a post office. Greet letter carriers and Adopt-A-Route volunteers as they return with non-perishable food. Help unload the food from their vehicles and box up donations for delivery to Oregon Food Bank.

To sign up visit http://www.oregonfoodbank.org/NALC-Volunteers

Use your professional truck. Are you a professional truck driver with a truck? Oregon Food Bank can use your help. Volunteers will fill your truck with food donations at the post office and you will deliver the donations to Oregon Food Bank. For this volunteer opportunity, contact Alan McNew at 503-282-0555 or amcnew@oregonfoodbank.org

Don’t forget to fill a bag with non-perishable items and place it by your mailbox, Saturday, May 10 or donate online at http://www.oregonfoodbank.org
