Beauty School Rocks Team Hosts 5K Run/Walk to Benefit Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
By: ITS Academy of Beauty

FORT WORTH, Texas - April 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Students and employees from ITS Academy of Beauty schools in Texas will host the Susan G. Komen race for the cure May 10 at Ridgmar Mall, 1802 Green Oaks Road in Fort Worth Texas. The school’s team, Beauty School Rocks, will begin the 5 K run/walk at 8 a.m. but festivities at the mall begin at 6 a.m. and will continue throughout the day.

ITS Academy of Beauty will host two booths, one in the main expo and another in the kid’s area that will provide various services such as painting nails with the breast cancer ribbon symbol, adding pink hair extensions and handing out goody bags to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research.

The award-winning cosmetology school has a goal of 50 walker/runners in the race and they hope to raise $1,500. This year the school is racing to honor one of their own, Candi Crawford, an eight-year breast cancer survivor who is the director of the ITS Academy of Beauty in Fort Worth. Candi’s story, as well as information on how to sign up to race, or donate to the cause, is featured on the www.beautyschoolrocks.com site.

“This race is very personal to us,” said Margie Wisniski, chief of operations of ITS Academy of Beauty and its affiliate schools throughout the U.S. “Candi is a survivor, but nearly 40,000 people will die this year from this tragic disease. But there is hope. Due to increased awareness about the disease and better treatments, cancer death rates are going down. This shows us that these races, and others like it, are making a difference.”
The American Cancer Society estimates there will be 232,570 new cases of invasive breast cancer diagnosed this year and  62,570 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) of the breast. CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer.  The ACA site estimates the chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer during her life is about 1 in 8. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 36. In 2014 it is estimated there are more than 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

“Our “Beauty School Rocks” team is one of many ways ITS Academy of Beauty and our affiliate schools are championing causes that matter in our communities,” said Wisniski. “We teach our students about outward beauty, but we encourage kind acts to develop inner beauty as well.”

ITS Academy of Beauty provides students with a distinguished environment that mirrors many of the upscale salons that will employ the cosmetology students after they graduate and earn their cosmetology license.

In addition to the award-winning cosmetology school in Fort Worth, the company owns and operates ITS Academy of Beauty schools throughout Texas and Lawton, OK, Olympian University in New Mexico, Hair Benders Academy in Florida and International Academy of Hair Design in Arizona.
