CLEVELAND - April 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Cleveland.com recently reported on a case in which Cleveland Criminal Defense Attorney Ian N. Friedman is representing a substitute teacher who was charged with endangering children following a bullying incident that occurred at Parma Senior High School in Parma, Ohio. According to the news website, Attorney Friedman requested that he and his client be given 30 days to review video footage of the bullying incident before his court proceedings continue. In response, the judge set the defendant’s next pre-trial hearing for May 28.

The April 16, 2014 online article is titled “Parma substitute teacher accused in connection with bullying incident appears in court.” As explained in the article, the teacher is being accused of witnessing a bullying incident that involved a developmentally disabled student and doing nothing to stop it. It is said that on Feb. 28 in gym class, one 14-year-old boy hit another 14-year-old boy (the victim) in the head with a ball over and over again. It is also stated that a 13-year-old girl watched while laughing and then kicked the victim in the groin.

Police allege that the substitute teacher broke up the group of students that surrounded the victim but then left to another part of the gym, despite the fact that the victim was laying on the floor, facedown. It was reported that other students then joined in, dragging the victim by his feet across floor and making obscene gestures toward the victim’s head while he was on the floor, according to the news story. A total of five students from the high school were charged as a result of the incident.

Attorney Friedman’s client pleaded not guilty to his charge of endangering children, which is a first-degree misdemeanor in the state of Ohio. Mr. Friedman said that he believes the video will help support his client’s plea and that his client will have “more direction” after he is able to view the footage.
