The focus of this year’s summit will be Georgia's current stand your ground laws. Additionally, the panel will look back upon the student participation and youth activism during the Civil Rights Movement to determine the role that these tactics can play within this topic.

The AJMLS Youth and the Law Summit is designed to give minority students the opportunity to think critically about ethical and practical implications of the law. This year’s summit has been organized by Dean Renata Turner, Assistant Dean of Pro Bono and Experiential Learning at AJMLS and by the Gate City Bar Association.

Dean Turner had this to say about the upcoming summit, “The Summit is designed to expose students to laws that have a direct impact on their lives as teens. We want to spark their interests in pursuing legal careers. However, more importantly we want to encourage them to become educated and informed citizens.

This year's Summit will focus on 'stand your ground' laws. We will also feature the award winning film The Children's March, the story of the pivotal role that young people played in the civil rights movement.”
