PRLog - April 17, 2014 - SYKESVILLE, Md. -- Attorney, Walter “Wally” Carson, candidate for House of Delegates, District 9A, spoke before the Sykesville Town Council at their Monday, April 14th Council Meeting to introduce himself to the members and become better acquainted. He was welcomed by Mayor Shaw, the members of the Town Council, Town Manager Ashbacher and Town Clerk Perrault.

Maryland District 9A, where Carson is running, is made up of portions of Southern Carroll County and Western Howard County, including the town of Sykesville.
Carson began his address by remarking on the charette that took place on Saturday, April 12th. “The involvement of your citizens in the charette process is pure democracy, and I applaud you for your commitment to such a process,” he remarked.
A charette is a planning session in which key stakeholders involved in a development or design project get together to seek resolution to conflicts by identifying solutions. The recent charette Carson referenced involved a joint effort with Howard County regarding the South Branch Park project in Sykesville and usage of the Apple Butter Building and the Sykes House.
Carson went on thank the attendees for the donation of the ‘Blue Caboose’ to the Howard County Farm and Antique Machinery Museum as evidence of their commitment to historic preservation and cooperation across geographic boundaries. He also expressed appreciation for the Town Crier, the Military Memorial and History Walk, the Art and Wine Festival, The Ghosts and Legends Walking Tour, the Concerts in the Park, The Gate House Museum of History, and the Colored School House.
Carson ended by promising that when elected, “...I will do my utmost to represent in Annapolis, the people of Sykesville, and in doing so, to be supportive of this wonderful community and its mission, To maintain a small town community of responsive elected officials, professional staff, and involved citizens who are committed to continuing to make Sykesville a desirable location in which to live and work.”
