BURY, U.K. - April 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Best known as surface engineering specialists, concentrating on wear and abrasion resistant coatings for aerospace and other demanding industries, Tecvac has established a dedicated unit for the manufacture of complex vacuum brazed components. The manufacturing cell can handle development work, small batch production and is able to scale up to higher volume commercial processing. The demands for economic production and consistent quality are achieved using furnaces of different capacities.

Vacuum brazing is an excellent choice for joining dissimilar metals such as copper, stainless steel and titanium but can also be used to join exotic materials such as ceramics and carbides. Thermal treatments such as hardening or solution treatment can be carried out during the brazing process, reducing the processing cycle time and saving cost. Vacuum brazing produces an oxidation free assembly so the joint has exceptional strength, often greater than that of the materials joined. Being ductile these joints resist the effects of shock and vibration remaining leak proof and strong during use.

Technology sectors currently benefitting from Tecvac expertise include aerospace, motorsport, medical devices, instrumentation and offshore equipment manufacturers. “Joining under vacuum requires no flux and takes place at temperatures below the distortion point for the joined components so pieces are produced that are clean and dimensionally accurate every time. As no further finishing is required, downstream production is also speeded and simplified. Our highly skilled team are able to assemble the most intricate components such as an intercooler having hundreds of parts, with precision and consistency,” explained site director Simeon Collins.

Planning is the most important role in project success. Tecvac carefully evaluate each project and develop a custom methodology based on selecting the most appropriate braze materials, assembly process and furnace cycle which is then followed by rigorous testing and validation. The company has extensive metallurgical laboratories, equipped to the standard seen in leading research establishments and operates an ISO9100 aerospace-standard quality assurance system.
