“The level of trusts that individuals have in corporations is declining,” says Daniel Levine. “Consumers are now assuming the worst when it comes to corporate decisions, and that has forced major producers to adapt to gain this trust back.”
Companies are adopting a variety of techniques and methods to strengthen their relationships with customers. Some ideas are simple: makeup manufacturers are offering more detailed ingredient lists and champagne and other alcohol producers are giving their products individual codes on their labels to give a life story of the contents.
Other ideas are more creative. Sushi makers are using edible QR codes to inform diners where their fish was caught. Chick-Fil-A is offering behind-the-counter tours to show how the chain operates and Domino’s has installed web cameras to show pizzas being made.
“Being more open with customers is a technique to prove that corporations have nothing to hide,” says Daniel Levine. “The more information consumers have, the more inclined they are to use a service or product. By building trust through transparency, businesses are able to stay ahead.”
