HEA Adds Two LEED Platinum Facilities to their Portfolio

April 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Syracuse, NY – Horizon Engineering Associates, LLP (HEA), a leading building commissioning firm, announces that the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS) and SUNY Cortland’s Dragon Hall have both received LEED Platinum certification. HEA provided LEED building commissioning services for the construction of these new facilities. In this role, HEA provided services to satisfy the LEED Energy and Atmosphere Prerequisite 1: Fundamental Commissioning of the Building Energy Systems and Credit 3: Enhanced Commissioning. HEA also provided Environmental Quality Credit 3.1: IAQ Management Plan (During Construction) and Credit 3.2: IAQ Management Plan (Before Occupancy) for Dragon Hall.

Dragon Hall is a $22 million, 60,000 sf, four-story dormitory. Originally seeking LEED Gold certification, the facility qualified for the highest distinction of Platinum. It was also certified very quickly; only six months after it was occupied.

Golisano Institute for Sustainability is a $38 million, 84,000 sf academic science research facility with specialized laboratories such as an Interactive Fuel Cell Test Bed Center, Nano Materials Integration Lab and an Electric Propulsion Laboratory. It is the campus’ highest performing building, and among the top 1% of green buildings in the United States.
