What Do Cancer, Lipstick, Changing Your Mind and Getting Results Have in Common?

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - April 15, 2014 - PRLog -- On this weeks show, Terri Murphy was joined by Lori Ovitz, Author of Facing The Mirror With Cancer and Shawn Shewchuk, Author of Change Your Mind, Change Your Results.

Ovitz shared the story of her journey to becoming a make-up artist who specializes in working with Cancer patients, stating, “I was able to take the tricks of my trade to use them to help someone who really needed it.”

She recalled, “The first Cancer patient I ever worked with, when we finished, she was running down the hallway of the hospital. She was crying and running with a big smile on her face because she couldn’t believe how good she looked and that she could look like herself.”

Gaining the insight for her start from acclaimed make-up artist Bobbi Brown, Ovitz explained, “My connection with Bobbie Brown is really quite special. In a 5-minute phone conversation she told me what to do and how to go about doing it and that lead me on my path…literally in a 5-minute phone conversation this woman changed my life!” Her special connection with Bobbi Brown didn’t end there. In Ovitz’s book Facing The Mirror With Cancer, you’ll find an endorsement from Brown.

Today, you'll find Ovitz changing the lives of others. She says, “Cancer is devastating no matter if it’s stage 1 or stage 4. The drugs that are intended to make a person better and to cure a person actually have major side effects on their appearance… Changing your lip color or putting on some eyebrows isn’t going to cure your cancer but it’s sure going to make it a lot easier to go through your day to day life.” Regarding all the patients she has helped look like themselves in spite of the effects of treatment." In response to the gratitude of the patients she's worked with, she says, "They gave me more of a gift than I was giving them.”

Author, speaker and coach, Shawn Shewchuk joined Terri for the second half of the show to talk about his book, Change Your Mind, Change Your Results. He said “One of the keys is a positive impact. I have an objective in my life. Everybody needs to because everything you do should be building something for yourself, for your family and a legacy.  What are you doing? What is the impact you are having? Is it a positive impact? If I impacted just one person it was all worth it.”

In keeping with his results driven mentality, Shewchuk went on to say, “We talk about setting goals and focus on certain things. At the end of the day it comes down to us taking action. If you’re sitting there with a sofa seat belt on, waiting for something to fall from the sky, be prepared for nothing to happen.”

Having often been asked exactly what type of coaching he specializes in: i.e. Life Coach? Business coach? Marketing coach? Shewchuk responds,” When you’re a coach like I am, everything comes out on the table. If you’re an entrepreneur your business has a direct impact on your life and your life has a direct impact on your business. It all comes down to results.” Later in the interview he said, “The key here is to be able to leverage the knowledge, leverage the skills and to be able to live from the inside out not the outside in. “

In closing, Shewchuk urged listeners, “If you forget everything else… remember this: We need to forget what everybody else is saying and focus on what we want to do" He went on to say, "I’ve worked with 6,500 people and all but 7 of those met the goals they set.”
