badge.php) is a new badge offered by the Boy Scouts of America. Kayak Morris will now offer this merit badge to all eligible Boy Scouts.
Kayak Morris is an Environmental Education based Outfitter located one hour from Chicago. They utilize Kayaking (http://www.kayakmorris.com/
, Camping (http://www.kayakmorris.com/
and other outdoor pursuits as vectors for teaching kids of all ages about the outdoors. Their kayak tours, kayak lessons and overnight “Glamping (http://www.kayakmorris.com/
events are educational journeys to teach kids and adults about various topics from conservation of natural resources to identification of wildlife and plantlife. Kayak Morris is registered as an official Boy Scouts of America Merit badge counselor and staffs professional ACA registered kayak instructors to deliver quality instruction. Kayak Morris teaches utilizing fossils, rope(teaching mariners knots), Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources Posters, flash cards of Illinois’ state symbols and experiential learning tools such as catch & release fishing. Kayak Morris’ campground is situated on the sandy beaches of Mazon River/Illinois River, right next to I & M Canal. The campground is fully wooded and offers many secluded tent campsites for relaxing and enjoying nature.
Kayak Morris will offer the kayaking merit badge class as a Five hour course. Scouts will complete all the requirements for the badge and be tested on their proficiency. The requirements for the kayaking merit badge will test the boys knowledge in basic kayaking strokes/manuevers, rescues/recoveries, boat design/purpose and even first aid/CPR. The kayaking merit badge class will be held in small classes to keep the learning potential high for each scout. Kayak Morris will also offer free camping for each scout and a guardian in conjunction with the class to make the class more convenient for out of town scouts.
