GLOUCESTER, Mass. - April 15, 2014 - PRLog -- (Gloucester, MA) – NeedyMeds, nationally recognized as the best source of information about programs that help with the cost of medication and healthcare, today announced the launch of its $250,000 grant program for clinics and other organizations that help individuals apply for free medicines through pharmaceutical patient assistance programs.

The 125 grants of $2000 each will cover the cost of software that simplifies and automates the often tedious and time-consuming process of applying to patient assistance programs.

“We are excited about this new grant program,” said Rich Sagall, M.D, President and co-founder of NeedyMeds. “It will allow us to help the clinics better serve their patients by increasing their capacity to assist patients applying to patient assistance programs. Using software to simplify and automate the application process is essential to increasing efficiency.”

The grants will cover the cost of PAPTracker, NeedyMeds’ software that automates and streamlines the application process, for up to a year. "Once advocates start using PAPTracker, they never want to go back to processing applications by hand," said Roberta Downey, Software Sales Manager for PAPTracker. "Last year users of PAPTracker saved patients $142,392,800 on over 156,240prescriptions."

Eligible organizations must be non-profit, see patients face-to-face and currently help people apply to patient assistance programs. Full program details are available at http://www.needymeds.org/pap_grant.htm.

"I hear from PAPTracker users every day," Downey explained. "They tell me how PAPTracker has simplified application completion, refilling orders and managing paperwork. That means they can help more people obtain the medicines they need, stay healthier and help keep medical care costs down."
