SEATTLE - April 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Hybrid publishers like Booktrope (recently featured by Forbes.com) are using innovative methods to compete with large publishers. They must often find alternative ways to promote their authors, using new strategies ignored by large houses or unavailable to them. Four Booktrope authors took advantage of a latter opportunity and made the final cut to the voting round in the competition to be named one of 2013's 50 indie books worth reading. Indie Author Land received more than 5,000 nominations.

Sarka-Jonae Miller of San Diego, Calif. was the first of the four authors to join Booktrope. She signed with the company in November 2013. Miller made the shortlist in comedy with her #3 comic fiction bestseller, Between Boyfriends. Miller was also named a runner-up in the MARSocial Author of the Year competition earlier this year. Her book was one of only 12 selected to compete for inclusion on the Indie Author Land list in the comedy genre.

In addition to being an author at Booktrope, Miller is also a book manager. One of the unique aspects of the hybrid publisher is bringing together teams of freelance professionals, including editors, designers, proof readers, and marketing managers. The team members share in the royalties. Miller represents five authors at the company, not including herself. Three of them made the shortlist.

Ruth Mancini of Oxford, UK saw her debut novel, Swimming Upstream, make the literary shortlist. Lilian Roberts of Gainesville, Georgia made the paranormal shortlist with her debut novel, Arielle Immortal Awakening. Roberts was also a runner-up in the MARSocial Author of the Year competition. Angel Sefer of Athens, Greece was the fourth Booktroper to secure a spot. Her romantic mystery novel, Spellbound in His Arms, made the romance list.

Readers have through May 18 to vote for their favorite books. Miller hopes to get all four of the Booktrope authors' books on the final list of 50 Books Worth Reading. The competition is open to self-published authors and those published by indie publishers like Booktrope.
