Nu-Classical Composer-Pianist Kris Becker To Perform His Creations On New York's Spectrum Series

Nu-classical composer-pianist Kris Becker performs his audience-electrifying music live on New York's Spectrum Series May 17. His individualistic fusion of classical, jazz, and rock has won recent international attention and makes its NYC debut.

NEW YORK - April 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Composer-pianist Kris Becker brings his nu-classical music and performance experience to Spectrum NYC for the first time Saturday, May 17.  The 7:30PM solo piano concert will also constitute Becker's full-length New York debut of his award-winning nu-classical original creations, concert music classically structured and crafted but genuinely and inextricably fused with jazz and rock.

Just named highest-scoring composer in the 2013 IBLA European Grand Prize for his Piano Sonata No.1 and one of only two honorees in the Music Teachers National Association Distinguished Composer of the Year Award 2013 for the psychological drama Enticements & Eternity, Becker's music is earning attention from the thoroughly trained ear to the avid music fan.  In the words of Sequenza21.com's Garrett Schumann, "Music like that [of Becker's] is worthwhile to the masses of listeners on the fringe of [classical] music because it challenges definitions and breaks down barriers between the music they are familiar with and that which they have never heard (most [classical] music)”.

Honored further by ASCAP, NACUSA, National Federation of Music Clubs, and the International Songwriting Competition, Kris Becker has taken his boundary-breaking composer/performer artistry around the globe, from the concert hall to the club.  Becker's May 17 concert will feature his award-winning compositions Piano Sonata No.1 and Enticements & Eternity, as well as the nu-classical explorations Retribution, Elegy, The Blowtorch Rondo, and more.  From the hefty and complex to the miniature, this event promises to display both large-scale and intimate creations of kinetic virtuosity and potent expression.

The on-the-rise Becker will appear in New York for further engagements in the week leading up to his Spectrum debut, playing original works at Carnegie Weill Hall, New York University, and on the Composer's Voice Series.  An international prizewinning pianist (semi-finalist Young Concert Artists Int'l Auditions New York; winner Yamaha Young Performing Artist, Lee Biennial International competitions), Becker's performance powers match his compositional prowess.  Not only classical composer-pianist but front man of fusion rock band Kris Becker & The Frozen Heat, also having worked with members of the The Temptations and Mike Garson (pianist, David Bowie), Kris is experienced across styles.

Serving both a classical and multi-genre audience, Kris Becker's music falls into a genre all its own.
