Follow on Google News | Robert Hevia named to Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition BoardBy: The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition Hevia is a city of Miami Fire-Rescue captain whose responsibilities include overseeing the department’s fireboat. He holds a doctorate degree in nursing practice and is a licensed advanced registered nurse practitioner with certification from the American College of Cardiology as a cardiac care associate. “Robert’s historical perspective as a Miami native and his involvement with The Youth Fair since childhood will prove invaluable as a member of The Youth Fair’s board of directors,” said Eduardo Cora, chairman of the board. “My personal connection to The Youth Fair goes back to the days when five Holsum bread bags and five dollars bought unlimited rides. When I was a student it gave me the opportunity to showcase my artwork and perform in drama competitions. Now as a father I take my 9-year-old son. The Youth Fair always has been a top-notch event, the jewel of Miami-Dade County. I have a profound interest in maintaining this tradition of greatness,” Hevia said. Hevia joined Miami Fire-Rescue in 1998 after he trained as a nurse, working in the emergency department at Baptist Hospital of Miami and as a flight nurse for its emergency flight service. He advanced in his nursing career as a trauma resuscitation nurse for Ryder Trauma Center and presently works as a nurse practitioner for an interventional cardiologist. He graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from Nova Southeastern University and received his doctorate in nursing practice from Barry University. The Youth Fair awards more than $300,000 annually in college scholarships, cash premiums and awards to local public, private, charter and home school students. To date, The Youth Fair has awarded more than $10 million to Miami-Dade students to help them achieve higher education. The Youth Fair is the only venue where students can showcase their educational, art and science achievements all in one place and be rewarded for their efforts. More than 40,000 student projects are exhibited annually to more than half a million families, friends and fairgoers. Please visit http://www.thefair.me/ End
