By: AESC Inc. Ron Ishii, AESC President, comments, “We are honored to be part of this exciting project that will usher in the next generation of electric vehicle systems and smart grid technologies.” UC San Diego recently unveiled the Intelligent Charging Project at UC San Diego with AESC, CEC, Daimler, RWE and SDG&E. This will be the first test in the nation for the next generation of “smart cars.” With the installation of the RWE chargers, UC San Diego will have the largest, most diverse range of electric vehicle charging stations at any University in the world. About UC San Diego UC San Diego is an academic powerhouse and economic engine, recognized as one of the top 10 public universities by U.S. News and World Report. Innovation is central to who we are and what we do. UC San Diego is committed to conserving energy in cooperation with statewide load-reduction initiatives and with UC standards. In addition to its electric vehicle charging systems, the campus generates about 85% of its own electricity using an ultra-clean and efficient cogeneration plant, the world’s largest commercial fuel cell, and solar panels. UC San Diego’s Energy Innovation Park houses a 2.8-megawatt fuel cell, a high-efficiency, sun-tracking photovoltaic array, Compressed Natural Gas fueling station, and a chiller plant to provide cold water to the nearby Moores Cancer Center and Shiley Eye Center. About RWE eMobility Electric mobility has been an integral part of the RWE Group since the 1960s. Its various activities led to the creation of the RWE eMobility Division within RWE Effizienz GmbH. The new division was to create suitable conditions for the mass marketing of charging facilities, the relevant system solutions and a wide range of services in connection with the charging of electric vehicles.
