Destination Wedding Report from MarryAbroad.co.uk

Leading website pinpoints trends of UK couples choosing to wed overseas

THURCASTON, U.K. - April 14, 2014 - PRLog -- With UK Wedding Season kicking off next month, destination website MarryAbroad.co.uk this month analysed its planners and venues, to discover more about the type of couple that ties the knot out of the country.

The site asked its wedding planners and venues in 22 countries around the world about typically who marries abroad.

The wedding providers reported the majority of their couples are aged between 20 and 40, with 93% booking their wedding one year in advance.

MarryAbroad's wedding providers also stated that 35% of couples marrying abroad spend over £10,000 on their wedding, with 35% spending up to £20,000 in total.

MarryAbroad also found that 10% of the wedding providers’ bookings are for second time-marriages, and the majority of couples came from the UK (53%), followed by the USA (26%), Australia (9%) and mainland Europe.

Time of year for weddings abroad
Site Co-Founder of MarryAbroad, Charlotte Hand states: “Logically destination weddings should not be limited to a specific season, as couples can go anywhere in the world to get married. However, in reality, most UK couples stick to the traditional wedding season of May to September when they're booking their wedding abroad.”

MarryAbroad questioned their wedding providers’ on why this should be, and found:

- Couples booking a European wedding want the weather to be good
- Couples take into consideration guests who want to go on holiday in the
summer months
- Couples are restricted by the summer school holidays (if they have children)
- Couples haven't considered there may be discounts available in the off-season

Who gets married abroad?
Marryabroad.co.uk also analysed their site visitors and discovered that typically:

- 57% are aged between18 and 44 years old
- There is a 61/39% split, of women to men
- 56% have no children
- 33% earn between £30-£50,000 per year
- 55% are graduates

Size and length of wedding
Site Co-Founder, Charlotte Hand further states: “Generally weddings abroad are smaller than weddings at home. This makes sense, as one of the main reasons couples go abroad is to limit the number of guests.

“MarryAbroad’s experience shows that a wedding abroad party tends to be between 10-30 people who stay for a week in the location. Granted, some weddings are much larger, but it all depends on the location and how far away it is from the home country. If a couple is from the UK and getting married in Europe, then their wedding could easily be much larger, but then guests could just stay for a couple of days and then go home. Wedding parties of up to 30 people are about average,” concludes Hand.
