Rat-Bite Fever (RBF) & Exposure Risks Discussed in New Video

The IAQ Video Network releases another educational video about important environmental, health & safety (EH&S) issues.

PHOENIX - April 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of their latest educational video.  Their newest production discusses the bacteria that cause rat-bit fever and various exposure risks to the disease.

Few people had heard of RBF before the tragic death of a young child in 2013 that is believed to have been caused his pet rat.  The case was reported by national media outlets and has resulted in a lawsuit against the company who sold the pet rat.

RBF is an infectious disease that can be caused by two different types of bacteria. Streptobacillary RBF is caused by Streptobacillus moniliformis in North America while Spirillary RBF is caused by Spirillum minus and occurs mostly in Asia. “Either organism may be transmitted to humans through bites or scratches, although infection can also result from handling an infected rodent even with no reported bite or scratch according to the CDC,” said Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.  “Infection is also reportedly possible due to the ingestion of a contaminated food or drink. We hope this video helps to shed some light on RBF and exposure risks.”

This educational video was sponsored by a number of organizations and leading industry professionals that help to protect the public’s health. Sponsors include: EMSL Analytical, LA Testing, Mold Solutions & FastMoldRemoval.com, Clark Seif Clark, Zimmetry Environmental, ProcessMAP, Envirotech Clean Air and Healthy Indoors magazine to name a few.
