Only people who have nothing better to do will be on Facebook all the time and your ex knows this. Let them think that you are busy, independent and interesting because you are not trolling their wall.

They secretly like to know that they can keep tabs on you in the virtual world without having to make much of an effort to contact you themselves. Secondly, they will suddenly sit up and take notice of you again and their imagination will go into overdrive. Where are you? What are you doing? Why are you so busy? Are you over them? Are you seeing someone else? When you don't give them the answers that they are looking for on Facebook they are much more likely to pine for you, something that they didn't expect to happen at all. This is when they will reach out to you and make contact again. It just requires a little patience and self control on your part.
