Transition Langport's "Plastic Bag Free" Campaign makes it into “The Westbourne 100”

Transition Langport's Plastic Bag Free Campaign makes it into “The Westbourne 100” as one of the most outstanding campaigns of the past 12 months.

LANGPORT, U.K. - April 11, 2014 - PRLog -- Any campaign can make a point, but this award recognises those campaigns that have gone the extra mile to change opinion.  Transition Langport is delighted to have been made the awards for their “Plastic Bag Free town” campaign which was one of the top 100 campaigns.

Using innovation, personal engagement, political nous and strong story lines the best campaigns not only raise an issue but change opinion. They help people see things from angles they had not seen from before.  Some have taken an issue no-one was talking about and enabled change merely by raising their profile, whilst others have turned popular thinking on its head.  International, national, local and single issue; some are ongoing, others are complete…but all change opinions.

Cara Naden founder and co-ordinator of Transition Langport said: "We are absolutely delighted and honoured to have made it into the Westbourne 100 most outstanding campaigns of the past 12 months. Our campaign sits alongside other high profile and well know organisation campaigns like Greenpeace's Artic Oil and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall - Hugh’s Fish Fight.

This demonstrates how a small rural community can make a big difference and get noticed.

The “Plastic Bag Free Langport” campaign highlights that plastic bags waste precious oil, impact on climate change through their manufacture and disposal and far too many are now polluting our countryside, waterways, oceans and wildlife. It’s such an easy thing for us all to give up and stop by instead using a reusable shopping bag, basket or cardboard box and the positive impact this action has on the environment, and the health of the seas, wildlife and ourselves is immense. It's time that oil isn't wasted on disposable, pollutive plastic packaging as climate change is impacting on communities here and across the world. It's wonderful that many of the community use their own shopping bags and that many of the local shops and outlets in Langport have got onboard to rid Langport of Plastic Bags and disposable plastic packaging.

We still have a way to go for all traders to go Plastic Bag and packaging free but we are making good progress."
