The IoT Olympiad will take place at the Cambridge Innovation Center (http://cic.us) The Olympiad is a 48-hour developer competition, focused on realizing the benefits of the Internet of Things in measurably improving efficiency, sustainability, and quality of life (the Internet of Useful Things™). There are three specific themes for this event, chosen to reflect the diversity of New England technology, focus developer attention, and provide messaging and positioning support for our corporate sponsors: GIVE LIFE: Improved Healthcare Outcomes Whether it’s about improving quality of care, improving patient outcomes, increasing institutional care efficiency, this Challenge will harness cold chain, Auto-ID, mobile apps and big data to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes, and to help reduce the nearly $800 billion spent annually in unnecessary or wasted healthcare expenditure. Examples include using IoT and M2M to improve personal or institutional healthcare outcomes, secure biologics delivery, meet the challenges and growing demand for elder care, or fostering personal fitness, general wellness, and self-care. To qualify for the Challenge Prizes in this category, winning teams will use sensor-connected (IoT) technologies to improve the health and well-being of a community, institution, or individual. PRESERVE LIFE: ‘Cold Chain’ / Supply Chain Efficiency This theme will feature NFC and other Auto-ID standards, sensors, large microcontrollers, responsive architectures, and reference data; combined with cloud-based data sources and streams to improve the safety and efficacy of ‘cold chain’ supply chains. Cold Chain integrates transportation and supply chain ecosystem sensors and controls to maintain critical ambient temperature for the delivery of temperature- SUSTAIN LIFE: Sustainable Maritime Economies Working hand-in-hand with municipalities and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the Cape Anne region, this Challenge will harness IoT sensors, meteorological, oceanic, GPS, tidal, and/or fishery data resources to explore solutions that tackle the unique challenges of the region. These include a rapidly-changing fishing industry, opportunities for maritime eco-tourism, and attracting innovation that can transform man’s relationship with the ocean. To qualify for a Challenge Prize in this category, winning teams will develop IoT solutions that innovate, advance, or preserve the balance of oceanic resources with the needs of the communities that depend upon them. Special consideration will be given to projects that promote a sustainable or environmentally- “Hackathons are fantastic ways to energize developers and build innovative communities.
