BOSTON - April 9, 2014 - PRLog -- College Hype, a Dorchester-based company providing quality custom apparel and school uniforms since 1987, will again this year raise funds to benefit the new fund established by the Richard family to honor their son’s message “No more hurting people – Peace.”

Eight year old Martin died as a result of the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15, 2013.  Martin’s parents, Bill and Denise Richard determined it was fitting that the foundation should honor Martin’s message of peace by investing in education, athletics and community. An inaugural team of 100 runners named Team MR8 will raise awareness and funds as ambassadors running in this year’s Boston Marathon on April 21st.

College Hype will build on last year’s fundraising efforts in two ways: first, by donating proceeds from the sale of their “Dorchester Strong” and “Boston Strong” T-shirt lines, which they did last year, and to raffle off two handsome quilts bearing the words “Boston Strong” and “Dorchester Strong.” The quilts were donated by Jack Cunningham of Ross Common Quilts, Dorchester. They are on display at College Hype at 540 Gallivan Boulevard, Dorchester. Raffle tickets are available at $10 each or 3 for $25. The first quilt was created with “Dorchester Strong” T-shirts, and the second quilt is made from “Boston Strong” shirts. Both are on display at College Hype, 540 Gallivan Boulevard, Dorchester, MA. All sales benefit the MR8 Fund. College Hype has set a goal to reach a total contribution of $25,000 between last year’s and this year’s efforts. Drawing day is Dorchester Day, Sunday June 1. The drawing for both quilts will take place at Ross Common Quilts in Dorchester. Raffle tickets can be purchased on line, either at www.dorchesterstrong.com or www.bostonstrongshirts.com. Tickets can also be purchased at College Hype.

Jack Doherty, President of College Hype, said that in response to the Boston Marathon tragedy, his company initially created a line of shirts, “Dorchester Strong,” and sales exceeded even his wildest expectations. “The t-shirts represented the spirit and sense of community that we feel here in Dorchester,” said Doherty. “The Richard family serves as an inspiration to all of us and Martin’s message of Peace has touched people all across the globe. As members of the community we are honored to be able to contribute to this wonderful cause in some small way, and these two quilts capture the spirit of our community.”
