Blanca Cobb Shares Positive Body Language Tips on WFMY’s 2 Wants to Know

From googly eyes to smiles to touch, internationally recognized body language and nonverbal communications expert Blanca Cobb shares techniques on spotting and giving positive vibes.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - April 9, 2014 - PRLog -- Tanya Rivera of WFMY’s 2 Wants to Know asked body language and nonverbal communication expert Blanca Cobb to share a few techniques to recognize body language that is happy and positive in nature.

“Smiling … a feel good hormone is what it releases. It increases your endorphins and serotonin levels,” said Cobb. “And smiling can lead to laughter.”

When asked how can you tell if someone is having a bad day from their body language, and what can one do to give them some positive vibes, Cobb stated that you can tell by their facial expressions — even when their words reflect the opposite. “Hi. I’m doing good,” Cobb said using a stoic facial expression in her example. She further explained that people having a bad day usually have their bodies on lockdown, meaning their body language is not open or inviting to engage or interact with others.

Using touch is a technique Cobb suggests to decrease stress with someone who is having a bad day. “Why do you think people go get massages? Because it feels good. But you don’t have to be a massage therapist to help,” said Cobb. “When you’re talking to someone, you just want to reach over and touch them or touch their upper arm.” “But not a creepy touch!” Rivera added.

Eye contact is another positive communication technique. “We show interest through our eyes. Think about when you look at a sunset and the vibrant colors, what are you going to do? You’re going to take in. It’s the same with people. Where do you think we get that term googly eyes? It conveys interest and likeability,” Cobb stated.
