Sailing into success with Degafloor

PETERBOROUGH, U.K. - April 8, 2014 - PRLog -- Situated in the beautiful North Essex estuary of Walton Creek, the Walton and Frinton Yacht Club is one of the oldest established yacht clubs on the East Coast.

Started in 1908 for local sailors, the club saw reduced activity in the 1930s and struggled on during the Second War World. However, soon after the war was over, the club saw a boom in membership and sailing, and today serves more than 700 members.

Over the years the yacht club has undergone a number of refurbishment projects to improve facilities for members, culminating in the extensive re-development of the clubhouse which, due to the exposed coastal position of the club, needed to embrace a wide range of new technology and innovative ideas to deliver a warm and welcoming facility with low running costs..

One of the key challenges faced by the committee was a decision on the type of floor finishes that would be suitable for the location, environment and duty cycle of the building.  It was crucial that the new floors would be fit for purpose, offer good levels of slip resistance, but look great to match the new modern interior.

To ensure the best floor finish was chosen, local resin flooring specialist Flo-Dek (UK) Ltd was called in to share their longstanding expertise and help to choose, and later install, the most suitable flooring solution.

Flo-Dek had to take into consideration the different areas that would require new flooring and also how the floors would be used. Having completed a site visit, Flo-Dek’s recommendation was a range of Degafloor fast curing resin systems, including Degafloor FB for the kitchen area and wet room, Degafloor Decorative Flake for the toilets and changing rooms, and Degafloor Degaset to create the falls in the wet room.

As a community project, the substantial cost needed to be covered by members and through fundraising efforts.  To help deliver the vision within the tight budget available, Degafloor and their sister company, The National Flooring Company Ltd, provided materials either free of charge or at a fraction of their true cost, with Flo-Dek providing heavily discounted trade professionals.

A total area of approximately 90 sq m was covered with fast curing Degafloor resin systems and much to the client’s satisfaction, the end result was a real success.  Project Manager Martin Jenkins said “we are exceptionally pleased with the relationship and workmanship of Flo-Dek. The project has been a complete success and the Degafloor products chosen have been a very integral part of that success.”
