PRLog - Apr. 8, 2014 - KYOTO, Japan -- Hello! My name is Jeff Berglund. I was born and brought up in the United States, but I’ve been living in Kyoto, Japan since 1969, when I came to study Japanese language and culture. After graduating from college, I started teaching, first at the high school level (for 22 years) and now at the university level (since 1992). I am currently a professor of intercultural communication at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies. I have written 16 books, eleven in English and five in Japanese. One of the books I wrote for high school students (“A Bridge to Understanding: The Life of Takamiyama”) was a best seller and it got me into TV work. I have appeared on more than a thousand TV programs, one of which was a weekly info-variety show about Kyoto, which I hosted for more than ten years. Living in Kyoto for more than 44 years and doing TV reporting on the lifestyles and culture of the people in Kyoto, I have a treasure chest of knowledge about this wonderful place. All of my TV work has been in Japanese, but I have decided to give something back to this city that I love by creating a site in English that introduces Kyoto to the world. Kyoto is not just a city of temples and shrines and traditional culture with 17 World Heritage Sites; it’s also an exciting modern city with excellent shopping, delicious food, beautiful nature, and great jogging spots! We’ve subtitled all the video clips in Japanese and kept them fairly short. Whether your language is English or Japanese, we hope you enjoy the video clips, but more than that, we hope that experiencing Kyoto this way on the Internet will make you actually want to come and visit! Kyoto is indeed one of the finest cities in the world!
