PRLog - Apr. 7, 2014 - As blogging becomes more and more popular, there are a variety of blogging platforms you can choose from. However, blogging from a free host blog site such as Blogger or WordPress can actually be quite dangerous for your blog.

Free blog host often control the blogs on their site with spam bots. These are meant to reduce spam and protect bloggers and viewers. Instead, they end up hurting many bloggers. Blogger, for example, actually deletes blogs and even locks blog creators out of all of their content until the site has been officially reviewed. This means a blogger can loose access to all of their content, advertising, links and more instantaneously. Sometimes this block is only prompted by a viewer clicking the “flag” button at the top of the page at a whim. Sometimes the spam bot will decide a site is a problem and lock the blog without prior warning.

While these spam bots do have an important role in the safety of the web, the bots are actually hurting honest people with quality blogs instead of “splogs” or other blogs that are promoting spam. Blogger has not always been this way, and the abuse of spam bots in just beginning to be a problem for the Blogger blogging platform.

Blogger believes these blogs are helping to enforce a standard of “genuine” blogs. However the nature of a blog is that it is something the individual can use to express themselves and communicate with others as they please, not based on someone else’s standards or conformity.

The moral of the story is: beware that if you blog on a free host, your blog an content are in the hands of others who make decisions. You do not have control or authority over your blog page.

To keep you and your blog safe, it is best to own your own domain name and install your own blog. This will ensure that you have control over the decisions made regarding your blog and that you are not at the mercy of others. Find a blogging platform to install that will fit your specific blog needs so that you are not providing content to someone else. Make sure your blog is truly your own!

If you take the time to actually install WordPress you will have full control over your blog and save yourself from the risk and hassle stated above. You will also be able to choose from various style options such as moveable type and the blogging platform design. Don’t learn the hard way. Choose to build blogs with your own domain name to protect yourself and your content.
