Trusted POS from Gardiff & J2 adds to the sizzle at London’s new chicken rotisserie restaurant

RUNCORN, U.K. - April 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Poulet Rouge, named after a superior breed of French chicken, is celebrating its first six months of trading in Balham and has shared details of how its technology investment is contributing to success.

Steven Novak, Poulet Rouge’s owner and managing director, is known for his popular Cattle Grid steak restaurants.  He explains the rationale behind opening his new brand in Balham.  “We already own The Kings Arm pub in Butler’s Wharf, so are well placed to know how buoyant and dynamic this area is for fast-casual dining.  It seemed the natural place to open Poulet Rouge and people love what we’re offering.  The restaurant is informal in style but uses only the very best ingredients.  We serve superlative chicken and duck rotisserie, with game in season, plus savoury galettes and sweet crepes.”

When it came to selecting an EPoS solution for the new business, Novak and his team were influenced by their Cattle Grid experience.  “Our relationship with Gardiff goes back 10 years,” he says.  “Their solution runs all six of our Cattle Grid venues, with their own software and J2 hardware supplied as a complete solution.  It’s all worked very well so it was natural to turn to them when we opened a new business.”

Having stress-tested the EPoS solution at Cattle Grid, the Poulet Rouge rollout was predictable and rapid. “Many staff have come from Cattle Grid so are familiar with our way of working and how we use technology, so the EPoS rollout was all very smooth.  The hardware’s been very reliable and the Gardiff software works well for us.  We can change it for each venue and for our head office operations.”

When it comes to reporting, Gardiff provides the management team with detailed daily turnover reports, revealing a breakdown of all items sold.  “Everything is automated.  I receive reports every morning so have real visibility and control.”

Poulet Rouge has followed Cattle Grid not just in its choice of supplier but also in its combining of fixed-point and mobile POS. The new restaurant has a J2 630 PC-based terminal plus has three Android tablets connected to it.  With the tablets in their pockets, waiting staff circulate amongst diners, ready to take initial and additional orders, which are routed straight to the kitchen.  “Staff spend all their time on the floor rather than walking backwards and forwards to enter orders and chase them up in the kitchen, so they get less tired and can give diners more attention.”

Continues Steven Novak: “We save time by taking orders on tablets; we reckon to give the kitchen an extra five minutes.  Orders are more accurate too, so we waste less. The whole process is more efficient, and that means it’s more profitable. Payment takes place at the fixed-point terminal via PDQ or cash and it’s all integrated.”

“The Gardiff and J2 solution gives us just what we need.  It’s reliable, easy to use and sensibly-priced, so I feel comfortable we’re getting a good return on our investment,” he concludes.
