Sherita Jennings To Showcase A Bridal Fashion Show on the GingerNewYork TV Show, NYC

NEW YORK - April 9, 2014 - PRLog -- Sherita Jennings:  was born into a family of self-taught artists: her grandmother specializes in sewing and patternmaking, her mother in confectionary, her father in painting, and her grandfather in carpentry. By the time she was nine-years old, it was her stepmother, who worked as a secretary by day and fashion designer by night, who inspired her dream of becoming a fashion designer.

Ms. Jennings went on to attend high school at the South Carolina Governor's School of the Arts and Humanities, where she studied Visual Arts with a focus in Art History and Sculpture. Years later she attended Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, the only all women's design school in the country. During her senior year, she was awarded the Tiffany & Co. Women's Leadership Fellowship, which gave her the opportunity to visit Ghana, West Africa. There she studied native textile techniques of Kente Cloth Weaving and Adinkra stamping. From this trip, Ms. Jennings refined her design process to combine elements of story telling with the traditional costume's and textile tradition's of global cultures.

Sheria Jennings is the CEO/Founder of VISCERA NY a womenswear line focused in demi-couture evening wear. The brand's collections are comprised of embellished gowns, cocktail dresses, furs, and modern chic day to evening separates and bridal.  All garments are produced domestically in New York City. Small-run beading is executed by an in-house team of beaders and production beading is completed by two family-owned embroidery houses in Kolkata and Mumbai, India. "My experience with local artisans in Ghana helped me understand my subconscious attraction to certain colors, patterns, and natural materials," she said.

In September 2013, Sherita Jennings completed the selective Design Entrepreneurs NYC mini-MBA program sponsored by the New York City Economic Development Corporation at the Fashion Institute of Technology. A firm believer in paying it forward, the designer began the Sewing Academy, a sewing practicum to keep the craft of sewing alive. As a proud Southern-belle, Ms. Jennings hopes to encourage the skill of sewing and continues for it to be passed down as a family tradition. Her professional teaching resume includes teaching Fashion Concepts and Illustration at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, PA, Leroy Neiman Art Center and the Harlem School of the Arts, and as a seminar speaker at the New York School of Design. Culminating all of her experiences with a love affair of draping, beading, and jewelry, Ms. Jennings created the luxury brand, Viscera NY. As a designer, Sherita Jennings's goal is to become a respected designer of luxury Demi-couture dresses, evening and bridal gowns for women of all curves and sizes.
