Launched as “Travel Jefferson™,”
The effort kicked off this week with the beta launch of TravelJefferson.com. The website includes dozens of destination profiles, a blog and a virtual “Gift Shop” selling goods that bear the slogan, “Double-crossed for 75 years.”

Organizers are betting that tourism can become a major economic engine for the state. According to the U.S. Travel Association, in 2011, travelers to California and Oregon spent $114 billion and generated over 900,000 jobs. Jefferson’s unemployment rate of 10.4% is significantly higher than its neighbor states and the national average.
“Many of America’s top natural, cultural and historic attractions are right here in Jefferson,” says Nick Salmon, Travel Jefferson’s Interim Deputy Public Affairs Liaison. “Travel Jefferson™ will work with small business owners to help develop the state’s full potential as a world-class tourism destination.”
