Big rise in travel job appointments

The number of travel job placements made between the start of January and the end of March increased annually by a huge 74.51 per cent, according to the latest stats from C&M Recruitment Consultancy (http://www.candm.co.uk/) and Chisholm & Moore Executive Recruitment (http://www.chisholmandmoore.co.uk/).

In fact, the number of placements in the first three months of 2014 was also up by 72.82 per cent compared to the same period in 2012 and by 25.35 per cent from the first three months of 2011, indicating the strength of the current recruitment market.

Almost all types of roles saw an annual rise in appointments, with the percentage of placements for business travel consultant roles rising from 23.53 per cent in 2013 to 32.02 per cent in 2014, while administration / reservation placements increased their percentage from 4.90 per cent to 7.87 per cent.

In a sign of the strength of the first three months of 2014, the percentage of travel consultant placements fell annually from 37.25 per cent to 28.65 per cent despite the number of appointments increasing in the timeframe. Similarly, there was a large rise in the number of executive or management travel management job appointments, however the percentage of placements dipped from 20.59 per cent to 19.10 per cent between the first three months of 2013 and 2014.

Commenting on the figures, Barbara Kolosinska, sales director at C&M Recruitment Consultancy (http://www.candm.co.uk/) and Chisholm & Moore Executive Recruitment, said: “The sharp annual increase we’ve seen in the number of travel job placements demonstrates how strong the recruitment market has been so far this year.

“It’s fantastic to see so many new appointments, as these means that travel companies are becoming more serious about boosting their team with great new staff members, while candidates are now feeling more confident about their employment situation and are looking to take the next step in their careers.

“We’ve seen a big rise in the number of placements for almost all job types, with the number of business travel, reservations and retail manager appointments being far ahead of the levels that we are used to seeing at this time of year.”

Surprise fall for marketing roles

Bucking the trend were the number of PR / marketing roles which dipped annually and now account for 2.81 per cent of all placements compared to 7.84 per cent during the first quarter of last year.

Meanwhile, many other types of roles saw their percentage of placements remain relatively static, with operations appointments rising from 3.92 per cent to 3.93 per cent of all placements, and branch manager appointments increasing their share from 5.51 per cent to 5.62 per cent.
