Soul Sanctuaries assists Heavenly Spa luxury award win

WAN CHAI, Hong Kong - April 3, 2014 - PRLog -- Westin Hotel and Resort in Nusa Dua, Bali launched Indonesia’s first Heavenly Spa in December, part of a multimillion dollar new wing development. Part of the Starwood Hotel Group, Westin opened a sixteen treatment room spa under the Heavenly Spa by Westin brand.

Joanne McFarlane, co-founder of Hong Kong luxury wellness travel company Soul Sanctuaries, a Spa aficionado and Asian marketing consultant was drafted in to develop and execute a spa marketing strategy and create authentic holistic wellness programs. Liaising with the hotel’s sales, marketing and PR departments, McFarlane spearheaded the successful launch of Heavenly Spa, aimed to not only stimulate the senses but also adding meaning and emotion with a serene and uplifting experience.

Spa rituals focus on a connection to nature, drawing inspiration from Bali’s natural resources with volcanic stone massages, seaweed wraps and East Bali sea salt exfoliations. His and hers thermal facilities include hydrotherapy pools, Himalayan salt saunas and steam rooms. A high tech luxury hair and beauty spa offers complete spa pampering in one space with Decleor facials, massage and luxe manicures. In keeping with the family friendly approach of the hotel, Joanne also conceptualized and launched a completely separate Westin Kids Spa for all young spa goers. This ensured that Heavenly Spa remains a child free zone.

With a focus on holistic health, McFarlane introduced a new Wellness Calendar to the spa offering with daily yoga, meditation and Asian martial arts classes, which now take place at the spa’s semi open air Wellness Platform. Introducing a former Buddhist Nun to the team as well as accomplished yoga teachers, guests can now really enjoy ‘wellness through travel’, a commitment by the Westin brand.

“Tasked with delivering something holistic and really authentic, I brought in a former Buddhist Nun who had spent quite some time in monasteries within Myanmar. I then sent her to train with a professional Bangau Putih team (derived from an Indonesia martial art, this part meaning ‘White Crane’ is similar to Tai Chi). She now acts as the Westin Wellness Ambassador and offers guests meditation, Bangau Putih and a life discussion series. I call her the Kung Fu Nun!”  states Joanne McFarlane, Soul Sanctuaries.
