Stereolabs and Dolby show next-gen glasses-free 3D workflow at NAB 2014

LAS VEGAS - April 3, 2014 - PRLog -- At NAB for the first time, Stereolabs and Dolby are demonstrating a technology for live broadcasting of glasses-free 3D.

In the movie theatre, moviegoers accept 3D glasses as part of the 3D experience. But watching 3D at home is different. TV is a social experience: viewers want to crowd around and enjoy watching together. That’s why 3D in the home will strive when viewers can enjoy 3D content without glasses—and without thinking about it.

At NAB 2014, Stereolabs has partnered with Dolby Laboratories to deliver the first end-to-end workflow for live broadcasting of glasses-free 3D content. The full chain from capture to display will be demonstrated at NAB. Stereolabs generates a real-time depth map during shooting and deliver enhanced content in the Dolby 3D format to a glasses-free 3D display. Dolby metadata are embedded in the stream to further improve the depth experience and deliver stunning images to the viewers.

This is the world's first demo of a fully live capture and display of glasses-free 3D content.
