Mayor William Sutton of Apex, North Carolina issues a Mayoral Proclamation for National Poetry Month

Recognizing April as National Poetry Month, Mayor William “Bill” Sutton of Apex, North Carolina issued a Mayoral Proclamation from his town. This celebration was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996.

RALEIGH, N.C. - April 4, 2014 - PRLog -- William “Bill” Sutton, Mayor of Apex, North Carolina issued an official Mayoral Proclamation recognizing the month of April as National Poetry Month. To increase the awareness of the cultural riches that his community has to offer and the essential role poetry plays in the arts and humanities, he joined several mayors from cities and towns across North Carolina in this literary request from N.C. poet Kym Gordon Moore.

The Academy of American Poets inaugurated National Poetry Month in 1996, which is celebrated every April. Schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers and poets throughout the United States band together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture. Individuals and organizations participate through readings, festivals, book displays, workshops and other poetry-related events to commemorate a genre that is reviving itself as a viable contributor to the development of creativity, awareness and education around the country.

Mayor Sutton previously served as the Town Manager of Apex and actively worked as a member on the Apex Town Council, Planning Board and Rotary Club. His involvement in these affiliations validates his focus on providing humanitarian services and high ethical standards to serve his community with excellence. Mayor Sutton’s mayoral proclamation recognizing National Poetry Month is a classic example of his vision for a strong and culturally sound community.
