St. Louis Rapper, "CityStylez" has his eyes set on elevating his city

April 3, 2014 - PRLog -- At one time music editors throughout the country believed that St. Louis was going to become a city with a surplus of chart-topping music stars. Somewhere in between hopes and dreams something happend and St. Louis was no longer a focus.  One hip hop artist from the home of the Cardinals  is making an attempt to resurrect his hometown and bring back the spotlight to the STL with his song, Errwhere.

Entrepreneur and rising artist, Lavell "CityStylez" Boyd is making a name for himself in St. Louis.  He is slated to become the next artist to break through the St. Louis music scene.  He has been getting national attention for his recent single and upcoming mixtape.  Ironically Stylez’ lyrical flow is much different from the local hip hop artists who have reached stardom.  Stylez’ flow is nowhere near the friendly hip pop styled delivery that St. Louis seems to be known for.  Styles’ artistry is more reflective of the life that he has lived.  The hard-knock street influenced delivery crafted by the ambitious young man whose dreams were big enough to help him become not just an artist but an entrepreneur has catapulted his rising success.  Aside from chasing his music dreams, Stylez is an entrepreneur and store owner.  He owns City Talk mobile in north county. He hopes that the attention he is getting through music will allow him to teach young kids about entrepreneurship.  Stylez' vows to uplift his community out of the poverty that they have become accustomed to.  His discipline and work ethics is enough to turn even the biggest skeptic into a believer.

“My music dreams are not just about being famous or rich.  My dreams are about igniting hope back into the inner city. I really want to help young people see that they can be more than what they see in the hood.  I want to be successful enough to build a community center for kids with special needs,” he said. Styles discipline comes from being the big brother to a sibling who has special needs.  "My sister Ashley has cerebral palsy so I never really had the freedom that a lot of young kids had because my priority was helping to take care of her. I’m thankful for that experience because it created my work ethic.  That’s why I’m able to be a business owner and have my own studio and company while I’m pursuing my goals.  I’ve been overlooked for years but I kept pushing myself and I know that everything comes to light in the end.  I don’t allow myself to be discouraged by the politic of the music business or the actions of others.  I just keep my eyes on the bigger picture.  I want St. Louis to be seen as the talented city it is.  There are so many people here who are gifted but have no opportunities because this isn’t Atlanta, New York or L.A. but I believe in St. Louis and I think we’ll make it,” said Stylez.

Styles music and videos are reflective of the inner city struggle in St. Louis. “St. Louis has a crime problem and a violence problem and until we start talking about it and finding solutions it’s not going to magically disappear.  I hope that my music will open doors for others."
