India Amends Documentation and Registration Requirements for Foreign Workers in Hyderabad

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - April 3, 2014 - PRLog -- Multinationals operating in Hyderabad, India, are now subject to newdocumentation requirements for foreign workers’ registration and extension applications filed with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). The new documentation requirements increase the administrative burden for employers hiring foreign workers in Hyderabad, India, reports Nair & Co.’s International Compliance Team.

Under the new requirements, either of the following documents must now be submitted over and above the old documentation requirements:

* A copy of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval (issued by the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs, New Delhi).

* A copy of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approval for the sponsoring Indian entity (this may be accepted at the discretion of the FRRO, instead of the FIPB approval).

Foreign companies planning to hire expats in Hyderabad are advised to make themselves aware of the added documentation requirements. In case a copy of the RBI approval (instead of the FIPB approval) is used for expats’ registration/extension applications at the FRRO in Hyderabad, the process may take additional time. Hence, such companies are advised to plan well in advance.
