DERBY, U.K. - April 2, 2014 - PRLog -- Sectors thriving in the current market include residential, non-residential and civil engineering projects, with projects beginning to enter double figures in comparison to last year.

Private housing continues to rise with the value of projects reporting to be up by 29%, this is comparable to social housing which took a hit in the last quarter, suffering a decline of 8% from last year. Allan Wilen, Economics Director at Glenigans said ‘Private housing will continue to be a key driver towards increasing construction activity, as evidenced by strong project starts in the first quarter of 2014’. The sector will see longer term success with a further boost in the Help to Buy scheme in the years recent budget by the government, this scheme will now run to 2020. This recent move by the government will increase the confidence of the house builder and bring forward sites for development; the scheme is projected to help 120,000 people buy their first home.

The majority of projects reliant on public funding have continued to decrease year on year, with projects started in the health sector down by 14% and community and amenity construction falling even further to 21%. The prediction for this sector isn’t positive in the near future due to government spending being spent on infrastructure such as new homes and rail.

Overall construction activity is rising across the UK with the south of the country enjoying the highest growth in starts on site; with the midlands following close behind.
