Recruiting a permanent child psychiatrist has been a challenge for SMA, as these professionals are a limited resource and in demand throughout the nation. For the past year, SMA has been able to provide quality interim psychiatrists to provide care to children. However, bringing on a child psychiatrist of Dr. Castells’ caliber will improve those services and provide stability for the clients and the community.
Dr. Castells, who has been in practice for 27 years, most recently was the Director of Children’s Crisis Services at New Horizons of the Treasure Coast in Ft. Pierce, FL. She is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Dr. Amole joined SMA in 2013 and has been providing psychiatric care at SMA’s Putnam clinic in Palatka before accepting the assignment in St. Augustine. Dr. Amole came to the Orange Park/Jacksonville area five years ago. He will be moving to St. Augustine in the near future. Amole has worked in psychiatric mental health for 25 years.
“Doctors Castells and Amole are welcome additions to our St. Johns clinic. Our clients are looking forward to a permanent child psychiatrist and Dr. Amole’s presence doubles our capacity to provide care to adults in need of psychiatric services” said SMA’s CEO Chet Bell. Amole will join Kelly Hensley, ARNP in providing services to adult patients in SMA’s St Augustine clinic, located in the St. Johns County Human Services Center at 1955 U.S. 1 South.
