By: Maggie's Blue Rose AVALON, Catalina Island, Calif. (April 1, 2014) — Award winning restaurateur Steve Bray and his wife Margaret announce the opening of Avalon’s newest restaurant, Maggie’s Blue Rose. This duo has been working side by side for the past ten years establishing Steve’s Steakhouse as the number one restaurant in Avalon. Overlooking the Bay and Crescent Avenue, Maggie’s Blue Rose will feature authentic Mexican cuisine paired with an extensive margarita selection and wine menu. This addition will mark a brand new era in Avalon’s history by introducing fine dining to this quaint resort town located 22 miles off the coast of Southern California. Bray, a fourth generation Catalina Islander, comes from one of the original island families whose lineage traces back to the days before chewing gum magnet William Wrigley, Jr. acquired controlling interest in the island. Rooted deep within Catalina’s rich history, Steve’s great-grandfather worked as an accountant for the Banning Brothers (original owners of Catalina Island), founded The Catalina Islander newspaper and continued on to be the first county judge of Avalon for fifty-three years. Bray's grandfather served as the local sheriff for over 25 years and father, a captain, ran the Avalon Mooring Service. Steve Bray has continued this success by opening his own steak and seafood restaurant, Steve’s Steakhouse, in 2001. A long time island enthusiast, Margaret has been visiting Catalina Island throughout her youth. Owning her own furniture manufacturing company over the span of two decades, she was contracted to design such establishments as Harrah’s Las Vegas, The Mirage Casino, Ritz Carlton Resorts and numerous properties nationwide. Margaret’s love of the island led to her selling the company and moving full-time to Catalina. An island resident of twelve years, she's utilized her extensive design background to redesign Steve's Steakhouse. Maggie's Blue Rose will reflect Margaret's passion and talent, making it Avalon's newest upscale offering. For over 14 years, Steve’s Steakhouse has served as Avalon’s finest restaurant establishment for both visitors and locals alike. Steve’s boasts superb and friendly service, an excellent location and the finest and freshest steaks & seafood found on the island. The launch of Maggie’s Blue Rose will continue this tradition. “At Maggie’s, we want to deliver the same high standards that local and visitor diners have enjoyed and come to expect at Steve’s,” says Margaret Bray. Maggie’s Blue Rose is set to open to the public on Saturday, April 12, 2014.
