Follow on Google News | Los Angeles Harley-Davidson and Entertainer Scott Helmer Team Up for Wounded Warrior Project BenefitSupport YOUR Cause Tour 2014-2015 with $1M Fundraising Goal Kicks Off in Southern California
By: Scott Helmer Records As the signature tour kick-off event, Los Angeles Harley Davidson (LAHD) is hosting an Armed Forces Day celebration and fundraiser with proceeds to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. LAHD’s Operation Appreciation will be an all day event on May 17 with a ride honoring the men and women of our Armed Forces. More than 300 people are expected to attend this event that hopes to raise at least $10,000 for the WWP. Helmer will perform an upbeat, energetic solo-acoustic set of rock and country favorites along with original material from his new CD, Wake Me When It’s Over beginning at 3:30 PM . When asked why LAHD wants to raise funds for the WWP, marketing director Lindsey Louder noted, “It’s such a natural fit because many of our customers have served in the armed forces, so the Wounded Warrior Project is a good cause that is near and dear to their hearts.” The mission of the WWP is to honor and empower wounded warriors. The group runs a variety of programs and services that help meet the needs of injured service members. A snapshot of Helmer’s last benefit tour ‘24 Nights – A Look Back’ can be viewed here (http://www.youtube.com/ The day begins at 9:30 AM with free coffee and donuts at the LAHD dealership located at 2635 West Orangethorpe Avenue in Fullerton, CA, for those participating in the benefit ride. After a blessing of the bikes at 10:15, riders will head out to the Riverside National Cemetery at 22495 Van Buren Boulevard in Riverside, CA, to view the monuments and memorials and pay respects to fallen soldiers. The ride will be lead by the local Harley Owner Group chapter, and riders will be collecting pledges for each mile of the ride to donate to the WWP. After returning to LAHD, riders will enjoy a free lunch buffet and before the Presentation of Colors at 3:00 PM, followed by Helmer’s performance at 3:30 PM. “Ever since a particular episode of George Noory’s radio show, Coast to Coast AM, I’ve been thinking a lot about the needs of our wounded veterans coming home,” said Helmer, and it’s not the first time Helmer has helped raise funds for the WWP. Additional details about the event may be found at the LAHD Operation Appreciation Eventbrite page (http://www.eventbrite.com/ Any motorcycle dealerships or clubs who want to raise funds for their favorite charities can contact Helmer to either schedule a pre-show rally for an already-scheduled tour stop, or host a whole new event. Helmer arrives to perform with full production sound and lighting suitable for smaller crowds (up to 300). Larger events should have more appropriate equipment on hand. Other good causes that will benefit from Helmer’s tour range from the Kostopulos Dream Foundation in Salt Lake City, UT to the Historic Homestake Opera House in Lead, SD, from Second Harvest Community Food Bank in St. Joseph, MO to the Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth, ME. Helmer’s entire adventure will be filmed for his new television show called What Are You Waiting For? that will not only document his tour and fundraising mission, but also share stories and feature the people and places that make America great. From companies to towns to individuals from all walks of life, Helmer’s show will spotlight those who have overcome adversity and are making a difference in people’s lives and communities. After making a huge mistake back in 2008 that cost him everything, including both his livelihood and his family, Helmer decided to not give up, hit the reset button on his life and created a new one based on three simple things, creating music, performing music, and helping others. Helmer will not handle any money or donations on behalf of organizations during his performances on the Support YOUR Cause Tour. “I am simply offering to perform at any fundraising event free of charge, to help them raise money and awareness for their cause,” he explained. To help offset his touring expenses while performing for free, Helmer will be selling copies of his CD, Wake Me When It’s Over, for $5 at each show. Recorded at the Waterfront Studios of Grammy award-winning producer Henry Hirsch (whose credits include Lenny Kravitz, Madonna and Mick Jagger), this contagious, radio-friendly rock album was written and performed by Helmer and his photographer- Charities, motorcycle clubs, or dealerships interested in joining the Support YOUR Cause Tour 2014-2015 should fill out this registration form (http://www.scotthelmer.com/ End
