William Bell, Mayor of Durham, North Carolina issues Mayoral Proclamation for Poetry

To commemorate and recognize National Poetry Month in April, Mayor William “Bill” Bell of Durham, North Carolina joins other mayors across North Carolina, by issuing a Mayoral Proclamation celebrating this event.

DURHAM, N.C. - April 2, 2014 - PRLog -- To commemorate National Poetry Month, Mayor William “Bill” Bell of Durham, North Carolina joined several mayors in cities and towns across the state to issue a Mayoral Proclamation in recognition of this poetry celebration. Mayor Bell graciously accepted the request from North Carolina poet Kym Gordon Moore to issue this proclamation for poetry, which supports the motto that North Carolina is truly known as the “Writingest State” in the country.

The Academy of American Poets inaugurated National Poetry Month in 1996, which is celebrated every April. Schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers and poets throughout the United States band together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture. Individuals and organizations participate through readings, festivals, book displays, workshops and other poetry-related events to commemorate a genre that is reviving itself as a viable contributor to the development of creativity, awareness and education around the country.
