~ Reader Reviews

After forty years as a speech-language pathologist, author Lydia Winslow recounts the intrepid people who made her job so fulfilling. Brain Damaged: Their Stories, My Journey offers a unique insight into her own career, and the critical role that caretakers play in the lives of those in need—brain damaged patients.

Living in a world of fear, doubt, and uncertainty, those stricken either by illness, or from a devastating accident, often require the skill—and patience—of those nearest them.

With a hint of anecdotal humor, and a touch of medical lingo, author Lydia Winslow crafts an amazing account of her brain-damaged patients and their lifelong journeys toward recovery.

“Formed out of a deep gratitude for her patients, author Lydia Winslow delivers a relevant memoir—an entertaining and informative account of life as a Speech and Language Pathologist,” said Kathie McGuire, director of Brighton Publishing LLC. “Brain Damaged: Their Stories, My Journey is a heartfelt and colorful journey through the fragmented—and fragile—world of brain injured patients and those who care for them.”

After graduating from New York University and City University of New York, Lydia Winslow settled into an externship program at the New York, V.A. Hospital. Afterwards, she would go on to hold a position at a prestigious rehabilitation center in Westchester County and then on to a variety of state psychiatric hospitals and group homes for the multiply handicapped, both in prison and in long-term acute care hospitals. Ms. Winslow cherishes the time she has had with every patient and describes them as “excellent tutors.”
