The Montclair Art Museum Launches Online Collection

Over 650 Works of Art included in New Searchable Online Database; Public Invited to Vote for Favorite Artwork

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - April 2, 2014 - PRLog -- The Montclair Art Museum boasts a renowned collection of American and Native American art that uniquely highlights art making in the United States over the last three hundred years. For the first time, the Museum's best known works of art—including many that are not currently on view—can now be seen from anywhere in the world through the web-based platform eMuseum. A new collections section of MAM’s website, http://collection.montclairartmuseum.org/, launched earlier this month and houses a searchable database of over 650 works of art from the Museum’s permanent collection. Visitors to this new online resource are able to browse by artist, search for a particular work, zoom in on detailed photographs, and even create and save their own collection.

Web visitors can find the new site at http://collection.montclairartmuseum.org/ or by clicking “Browse the Collection” under “The Collection" tab on the Museum’s main site. In addition to accessing the full online collection, visitors can investigate curated highlights of MAM’s strengths and special collections, including Native American Art, the Vogel Collection, and works by George Inness, among others. Registration is free to all visitors, and account holders can select favorite records, curate personal online collections, and save research notes.

Taking advantage of the new technology in the new collections section of MAM’s website, the Museum is also inviting the public to vote on their favorite artwork in MAM’s collection. One of the featured eMuseum subcategories is the exhibition 100 Works for 100 Years, on view through summer 2014, which highlights 100 pieces from MAM’s permanent collection in honor of its Centennial Year. Visitors to the collections website can select their favorite with just one click and are encouraged to comment on why they chose a particular work. Write-in votes for a favorite work not included in the exhibition are also accepted by emailing voting@montclairartmuseum.org. Vote early and often! The top ten works will be displayed at MAM at a future date.

The Montclair Art Museum's Online Collection is generously supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Museum will seek additional funding opportunities in order to continue to expand the number of works and types of content available online.
