New Book Helps Busy Adults Unlock The Secrets to Effectively Managing Stress

NATICK, Mass. - March 31, 2014 - PRLog -- Natalia Sedo, a nurse practitioner with more than 20 years of clinical experience, has authored a new book titled, "From Stress to Calm: Relaxation Secrets Children Can Teach Us."

Although many books have been written on stress management, few provide intuitive and sustainable solutions.  "From Stress to Calm" is unique, as it explains the many relaxation techniques that we are all born with to cope with stress. These strategies include: laughter, breathing techniques and a keen focus on the present moment - just to name a few.

When working properly, stress helps us stay focused, energetic, and alert. In emergency situations, stress can be a lifesaver. But, beyond a certain point, stress stops being helpful and starts causing major damage to people's health, mood, productivity, and overall quality of life. There are millions of Americans, representing all demographic groups, who suffer with stress-related illnesses such as pain, anxiety and high blood pressure.

The book showcases real-life examples in which adults can employ stress management behaviors they once used in their childhood and appropriately integrate these methods into a wide array of daily adult life situations.

"Although we don't have control over everything that causes stress in our lives, the book explains how we are always in full command of our stress response - even if we don't think this is the case," says Sedo.  “By examining childhood reactions to stressful events, we can discover the secret keys to responding to challenging situations in a calm, thoughtful manner," she adds.

People are more stressed out than ever, especially with the economic uncertainty over the last several years.  As a nurse practitioner, Sedo has seen first-hand the increased number of individuals who suffer with stress-related illnesses. Beyond feeling overwhelmed and overburdened, they often don't see an end to their despair.

This situation prompted her to research and come up with simple, sustainable solutions to help them manage these paralyzing circumstances. By observing children in a variety of situations, she realized we are born with strategies that help us restore an inner calm; but, for various reasons, lose touch with them as we transition into adulthood. Thus, re-learning the techniques we used as children is an appealing and valuable approach to dealing with stress as adults.
