Rare Silver Chinese Antique From 19th Century

NEW YORK - March 30, 2014 - PRLog -- Dramatic silver teapot. Made by Khecheong in Canton, ca. 1851. Upward tapering sides, side-hinged and curved cover, scroll handle, and scrolled vertical spout. The sides have raised scenes of Chinese life with figures in exotic costumes, pavilions, and blossoming trees. The handle is in form of dragon with head peeping above the cover and webbed feet gripping the pot. The spout is also scaly reptilian and terminates in head with gaping mouth spout. Inspired exoticism, fine craftsmanship, and good heft. Engraved on underside: “E.M. Brown from F. Argenti 1851.” Hallmarked. Excellent condition with rich patina.

Dimensions: H 5 ¾ x W 7 ¼ x D 3 1/3 in. Weight: 18 troy ounces.
