Got MLIF? Bokeh Gallery Going Old School

PHOENIX - March 27, 2014 - PRLog -- Digital photography and technology--apps, photoshop, etc--have made everyone a photographer.  Can you believe there are people alive now that have never used a film camera?  Before contemporary developments photography was an art form which incorporated technical skill, science, and a lot of hard work to make one single image.  Film photographers spend long hours experimenting with not only multiple exposures in the camera when in the field but painstaking hours in the darkroom exploring the chemistry for the perfect image.

The title of this show is "film" backwards, but upon first glance it may cause many to do a double take.  This was on purpose, it is a call for people to take notice, think about, and remember what goes in to film photography--it is a call to awareness, an awareness that photography is a true artform.  Fine art photographs are MADE by the artist, not just simply "taken."

The artists included in the exhibition use various techniques and explore the nuances of their craft.  Noe Badillo explores movement, applying modern techniques and theories to change images of classical artworks.  Peter B Klein uses infrared photography to create great contrast--deep blacks and bright whites--and capture the range of tones in between.  BK Skaggs is a hunter-gatherer photographer, exploring place and capturing images as trophies.  Lydo Elise Le captures singlular moments in minimal color film photographs. Together, the artists display a wide range of the possibilities using traditional film photography with contemporary experimentation.

Bokeh Gallery is located in the monOrchid, in the heart of the downtown Phoenix arts district at 214 E. Roosevelt St. with the building open daily from 9am - 5pm. The entrance to Bokeh is through the east alley. Originally a Del Webb warehouse constructed in 1937, thirteen years of renovation and invention have morphed the 14,000 square foot building into a unique space for creativity, celebration, and culture.
