With over 21 options, campers can choose a variety of classes, to create the perfect blend of discovery and education. Inspire creativity with camps such as ART-O-RAMA Masterpiece and Wildly Creative, or choose Green Engineering for the future engineer. Or for the child who loves science, Magic Science, in which campers will uncover the scientific explanation behind tricks such as levitating objects, making objects appear as if they move on their own, resting a balloon on a bed of nails without it popping and many more.
“Since each camper chooses his or her individual workshop schedule, we truly offer a customized camp experience to meet any child’s interest,” said Monica Moreno, director of YPW. “Our camp instructors are dedicated, local professionals who will provide a variety of diverse, creative and enriching learning experiences into each camp.”
New for 2014, YPW launches its three inaugural weeklong Chinese summer camps. Each camp will offer international learning schemes and hands-on activities so children immerse themselves in Chinese culture, learning and practicing mandarin.
YPW also runs a Spanish Day Camp, in which campers will learn about the language, food, music, arts, and social habits that influence the Latin American culture. Teachers engage a lively teaching style, with dramatic presentation, songs, games, miming and gestures to enhance language comprehension and fun. Spanish Camp features unique curriculum such as how to prepare and cook traditional Latin American dishes, as well as a variety of field trips to a Latin Supermarket, Latin TV News Station, Austin Zoo, Mexican-American Cultural Center and more.
Also new this year, each week in addition to the regularly scheduled course, campers will encounter a unique Theme Day featuring inventive elements, games and costumes. Just a few of the many themed environments campers may experience include the Wild West, a Hawaiian Luau or shipwrecked with Pirates.
YPW Camps are offered in one-week increments from June to August, available for half or full-day sessions. Camps are located in Westlake Austin and Round Rock and available for ages three to twelve. All YPW instructors are certified schoolteachers or highly trained professionals with extensive experience.
