Longstanding Guided Meditation Website Goes Mobile

It wasn't easy, but The Healing Waterfall is now available on your phone.

SANTA FE, N.M. - March 27, 2014 - PRLog -- The Healing Waterfall is the name of both a famous guided meditation recording, and a website that offers a variety of programs along the same lines. The popular site, which has been online approximately ten years has gone through a number of permutations. The latest is a full replication of all its content to the mobile format. You can find the site from any device at http://www.guidedimagerydownloads.com

Many websites of late are being designed in what’s termed a “responsive” framework, referring to the ability of the site to re-conform to the screen upon which it’s being viewed. Most of these sites simply squish down their material so it stacks vertically, often with sidebars getting pushed below main content areas in an awkward stack. Results vary, some sites becoming more readable than others. In the case of this guided imagery website, the company wanted something a little different.

“It was important to me that we maintain the high design standards we’d established on the full site, and carry those over to the mobile site. Our programmer worked long and hard on an alternate version for small screens that would provide a positive viewing and listening experience”, said owner Max Highstein. Highstein’s other recent projects include an online course on intuition, which can be viewed at http://www.intuitionretreat.com

Like the full site, the phone version offers visitors the chance to listen to audio samples of over 65 guided imagery programs and courses on relaxation, wellness, personal growth and spirituality. When a visitor finds something he or she likes, they can purchase an MP3 download, or in many cases choose a CD. All of the programs include gentle narration and soft background music.

Although everything is tested and working well, there were technical challenges along the way. Apple devices in particular don’t play well with the Flash format used on the full website for playing audio, so alternate HTML based audio players had to be implemented. When a visitor comes to the site, a variety of “sniffers” determine whether the user is on a computer, tablet, phone, or other device, and serve up the correct formats and the right site layout to suit.

“It’s always been part of our job to find out how to best deliver our products over the web. The mobile hurdle is just the latest challenge, and I’m sure they’ll be more,” says Highstein.
