ISKME Adds Junyo CEO and Technology Innovator to Board

Steve Schoettler, CEO of Junyo and cofounder of Zynga, joins ISKME board. Current board member Andreea Serban, Vice Chancellor Education Services and Technology, Coast Community College District, California, elected as Board Chair.

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. - March 27, 2014 - PRLog -- ISKME, a pioneer in educational innovation and knowledge sharing since 2002, today announced the appointment of Junyo CEO and technology innovator Steve Schoettler to its board of directors. In addition, current ISKME board member Andreea Serban, Vice Chancellor Educational Services and Technology, Coast Community College District in California, will become ISKME board chair. ISKME’s founder and president, Lisa Petrides, said the board’s new composition reflects the non-profit’s drive toward leveraging technologies to provide access to excellent education resources and practices on a global scale.

Schoettler is a technology entrepreneur with a passion for tackling complex social problems. As a corporate leader and philanthropist, he has impacted the lives of millions and helped generate significant global business success through technology, gaming and educational initiatives.  He is founder and CEO of Junyo, a learning-analytics company in Silicon Valley, with the mission to improve the learning experience of every child. Prior, he was the cofounder of online gaming giant Zynga. Schoettler sits on the board of the Full Circle Fund, a non-profit incubator helping to accelerate change in education, environment, and economic opportunity. He is also a board member of Indiegogo, a crowd-funding platform supporting entrepreneurs and causes. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a B.S. in electrical engineering and computer science.

Says Schoettler, of the role he expects to play in ISKME’s ongoing reinvention of education, “I am excited to join the ISKME team. As education becomes more personalized and adaptive, students will increasingly depend on access to learning resources that meet their needs. Current board member Serban is an educator and administrator with more than two decades of experience in the leadership of colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. As Vice Chancellor of Educational Services and Technology for Coast Community College District in Costa Mesa, CA, she is the district chief academic, student services, and technology officer, overseeing instructional and international programs, student services, grants, international research, technology, and partnerships. A widely published author, executive editor of the Journal for Applied Research in the Community College, board president of the California Colleges for International Education consortium, frequent speaker, and recipient of many awards and honors, including an appointment by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO, Serban brings extensive knowledge in education practices here and abroad with a focus on technology.

Serban stresses that “ISKME’s focus on redesigning the future of education coincides with my keen interest and work over the past 15 years in strengthening a framework for student success in California community colleges. I also hope to contribute my experience in international education, particularly in applications of technology, with ISKME’s outreach in the Middle East and North Africa.”
