Follow on Google News | Moving up in Accountancy with WOU degreeLim Pick Yean, 46, enrolled in the Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Accounting programme through WOU’s open distance learning (ODL) while working then as an assistant accounting supervisor in a manufacturing company in Ipoh. “I wanted to upgrade my level of position,” she said. She graduated during WOU’s fourth convocation last December and now resides in Greece with her husband. In fact she completed a major part of her studies when overseas and credits WOU’s learning management system, WawasanLearn, and course coordinators for the wonderful support offered to her. She is using her degree to apply for accountancy jobs in Greece, since her ODL Accounting degree is recognised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW), the largest professional accountancy body in Europe. WOU’s ODL Accounting degree is also recognised by Certified Practising Accountants Australia (CPA Australia), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA, UK), Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). The recognitions afford a fast-track for WOU graduates since they only need to top up their credits and sit for the required examination to become a member of any of the scheduled bodies and be ‘called’ a Chartered Accountant. In addition to ODL, WOU now also offers the Accounting programme via its On Campus Learning (OCL) for full-time studies to cater to STPM school-leavers and diploma holders. Among the OCL Accounting students at the main campus in Penang is Fan Yin Wen, 21, from Teluk Intan, Perak. Fan learnt about the degree programme through her Internet search and promptly decided to enrol during the February 2014 OCL intake. “I chose WOU because I like the environment and the fees are affordable.” This OCL Accounting degree programme has already received recognition within a short span of time from two international professional bodies, namely ICAEW and CPA Australia, with similar recognition expected from others in the near future. In light of the professional recognition, “WOU graduates can become accountants by taking the Qualifying Examination of the scheduled bodies, together with chambering,” Enrolment for July 2014 ODL intake is now open. You can apply for any undergraduate degrees studies at WOU through Regular Entry or via WOU’s unique Open Entry Admission System that takes your work experience into consideration.
