Many hold the common misconception that one must be young and fit-or at least able to get down and up from the floor-to do yoga. Attendees will pull up a chair to find this is not the case. They will learn about the latest research reporting the benefits of yoga for arthritis, osteoporosis, and mental health. Then they will experience some chair yoga movements, a simple Eastern knee strengthening exercise, and yogic breathwork and relaxation techniques.
Attendees will learn about and experience how the Sit Down and Get Fit Chair Yoga program makes a yoga practice accessible to all levels of flexibility.
This program will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014; 2:00-2:45 PM at the Chaska Police Department Senior Expo, Chaska Community Center, 1661 Park Ridge Drive, Chaska, MN
There will be a raffle of the Lakshmi Voelker Get Fit Where You Sit DVD at the expo.
Mary Tellers, MA, LVCYT, RYT-200 is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200), a member of the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association (KYTA), and a certified Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga Teacher (LVCYT). She completed her yoga teacher training in 2010 at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, MA. She also did her Chair Yoga certification at Kripalu in 2007. She assisted her teacher, Lakshmi Voelker, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN in 2009 at a Chair Yoga certification course for physical therapists, nurses, and other health professionals.
Ms. Tellers holds a MA in Human Development from St. Mary's University-Minneapolis, MN where she did research on the impact of holistic therapies, such as whole food therapy, sound therapy and art therapy, on the healing of women with fibromyalgia. She holds a BA in Foods and Nutrition from St. Catherine's University-St Paul, MN. Currently she works full-time as a Wellness Associate at Lakewinds Natural Foods cooperative in Minnetonka, MN. She enjoys educating customers about the benefits of organic, natural health and bodycare products. Also, she also is an instructor for the Lakewinds University, teaching an Introduction to Wellness course to employees which she developed.
